At least 22 killed in artisanal mine collapse in Mali
At least 22 artisanal gold miners died in southern Mali on Saturday after the shaft they were working in collapsed, the general secretary of the miners’ confederation told Reuters on Thursday. The accident follows the death of over 70 people in similar circumstances at an artisanal mine in southwest Mali in January. Artisanal mining is a common activity across much of West Africa and has increased in recent years due to growing demand for metals and rising prices. ... (full story)

The central bank says it will decide on the detailed reducing strategy in the next meeting. Until then, it will continue purchases at the current pace, which is at around 6 trillion yen ($38.1 billion) per month. The move marks another move toward policy normalization that started on March 19, when the central bank decided to end its zero interest rate policy, new equity purchases and yield curve controls but stopped short of reducing the amount of its bond purchases.
