China surpasses US to become top export market for South Korea
China has surpassed the United States to become Korea's largest export destination, thanks to increased exports of IT products such as semiconductors and displays, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Saturday. The trade ministry said that exports to China and the U.S. – two major export markets for Korea — have increased. Exports to China rose by 7.6 percent to $11.38 billion, marking the highest figure in 19 months since October 2022 when it recorded $12.2 billion, and exports to the U.S. also increased by 15.6 percent year-on-year to $10.93 billion, the highest for May.
