The European stock markets started Thursday's trading in negative territory. The markets thus followed the lead from the U.S. and Japan, where profit-taking was recently recorded, resulting in losses on the stock exchanges. This was mainly due to the preChristmas period as many traders are already on holiday, meaning that trading volumes are lower overall and fewer investors are able to cause price movements. Economic and labour market data from the US are due later today, which could possibly provide some impetus.
