Copper hits 7-week low on weak yuan, rising stockpiles

Copper prices in London hit their lowest in seven weeks on Tuesday under pressure from a weaker yuan, which reduced the purchasing power of top metals consumer China, and rising inventories. Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange (LME) fell 2% to $9,706 per metric ton by 1004 GMT after hitting $9,691, the lowest since April 23. “Base metals prices continue to come under pressure after having rallied sharply through May,” Standard Chartered analyst Sudakshina Unnikrishnan said.
